Christmas Sleighs & Grinches Print

Christmas Snakes and Ladders or should we say Sleighs and Grinches is a fun exciting way to teach your little ones their letter sounds these holidays. The game is an engaging way to practise letter recognition playing Snakes and Ladders where each square features a different letter. The game is in EDU NSW ACT Foundational Font teaching children the correct letter formations that will be taught in school. 

When children land on a letter, they can say the sound it makes and then name the picture that begins with that letter. To extend their learning, you can encourage them to think of additional words that start with the same letter, or even come up with a rhyming word related to the image.

This game not only supports early literacy, but also strengthens children’s interpersonal skills through turn-taking, fine motor skills as they pick up and roll the dice and move their pieces, and numeracy as they count and add the numbers on the dice. You can increase the challenge by using two dice—one with numeral symbols—giving children the opportunity to visually recognise numbers and match them to quantity. Depending on your child’s skill level, you can also introduce simple addition and subtraction using the two dice. This fun activity was a favourite among children aged 3–7 years, keeping them engaged, excited and eagerly watching to see who would win!
